Who are you?
I'm just a resident of the South Tabor neighborhood who loves basement bars and dabbles in photography for fun. You can see my personal portfolio here.
Why are you doing this?
I'm just doing this for fun, and because I find it motivating to have a project. I also want to use this as a sneaky excuse to get to meet some of my neighbors and maybe share a love of quirky basement bars and Portland generally.
Where will this go?
I don't know! That's the fun of it. At the very least, I'll add the photos to this very website and maybe that'll be it. Or maybe I'll print a little photo zine or book or something. Maybe I'll sell prints. This is not really intended primarily as a commercial venture, but I can't promise I won't sell anything from it.
Have you ever done anything like this before?
Nope!
What will be expected of me if I participate?
If you have a basement bar you'd like me to feature, I'd love to come to your house and spend a bit of time getting to know you and your bar. Bonus points if the bar is "alive" - friends over, drinks flowing (even if they're not alcoholic!). I'd love to see your "signature drink", whatever that is.
I don't tend to use a ton of equipment so there probably won't be any big lights or anything crazy like that.
Will I be compensated?
I cannot offer compensation for featuring your bar at this time. This is just a personal project for the fun (and community) of it. If there are any particularly great shots of you or your bar, though, I'd love to offer you a small print as a token of appreciation.
What if I'm not in Portland, OR?
Unfortunately I'm not featuring basement bars very far beyond the Portland metro area. If you're close enough and feel that yours is really special, though, drop me a line and let's talk.
