The Basement Bar Project
By Scott Ogle / GORPCORP

A photo project documenting  unique home basement bars around Portland, OR.

One of my favorite things about our home in Portland's South Tabor neighborhood is the incredibly vibe-y, incredibly original 1960s basement bar. Over the years I've learned that many of the homes in the neighborhood were built with similar spaces - some have been preserved, others updated. I want to document as many of them as I can. This project is a love letter to the humble basement bar.
Why the basement bar?
To me they represent something that I fear we're at risk of losing - the sense of community, of opening your home as a gathering space, of physically coming together offline to talk and dance and laugh. Also, a lot of them are just really cool.
Do you have a basement bar in your Portland home? Would you be willing to let me come over for an hour to photograph it? Let's talk!
